Entombed are a Swedish death metal band who formed in 1987 under the name Nihilist and became Entombed by 1989. They were among the early pioneers of Scandinavian death metal, whose heavily distorted "buzzsaw" guitar tone set it apart from the American style. Alongside Dismember, Grave and Unleashed, they are counted among the "big four" of Swedish death metal.

Debut album Left Hand Path arrived in 1990, followed by Clandestine in 1991. By the early-to-mid 1990s the band were pulling in progressive, punk, hard rock, garage rock and groove metal ideas, which helped shape death 'n' roll. Wolverine Blues (1993) is the record most closely tied to that shift, and DCLXVI: To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth followed in 1997. Those four remain their best-known albums.
