Vulgar Display of Power
Vulgar Display of Power is Pantera's sixth studio album, released in February 1992 on ATCO Records. It followed their breakthrough, Cowboys From Hell, and reunited the band with producer Terry Date. They set out to make something heavier than that record, spurred on by the more commercial direction Metallica took on their self-titled album, which came out while Pantera were recording.
The result is the band's biggest seller, certified 2× Platinum and reaching the top 50 of the Billboard 200, well beyond their previous album. It turns up often on lists of the finest and most influential metal albums of the 1990s. Start with "Mouth for War", "A New Level", "Walk", "Fucking Hostile" and "This Love", all among the band's best-known songs. A 2012 expanded reissue added an unreleased track, "Piss".
