Metal Magic is the debut album from Pantera, released on 10 June 1983 on the band's own label, Metal Magic Records. It's a long way from the groove-heavy sound the group later became known for. Here they lean towards glam and heavy metal, with Kiss and Van Halen as clear influences, and that approach carried through their next three records too.

It's very much a family affair. Jerry Abbott, a country songwriter and producer, oversaw the sessions under the alias "The Eld'n". He was also father to drummer Vinnie Paul, then 19, and guitarist Diamond Darrell, who was 16 and would later be known as Dimebag Darrell. Hearing the album now is a chance to catch a band still finding its feet, years before Cowboys From Hell changed everything in 1990.
