Reinventing the Steel
Reinventing the Steel is Pantera's ninth and final studio album, released in March 2000 through Elektra. It followed The Great Southern Trendkill and sits in the groove metal, heavy metal and alternative metal territory the band had made their own through the 1990s.
It is also the last studio record Pantera made before their split, and the last to feature both Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul Abbott. It arrived at a tense time, with Phil Anselmo's heroin addiction having led to a near-fatal overdose in 1996, and the band fractured not long afterwards, as Anselmo turned to side projects. Reviews were positive, though it did not match the success of its predecessors and remains their only major label album not to go platinum. For anyone following the band's story, it is the closing chapter.
