Pure
Pure is the debut album from 3 Colours Red, released in May 1997 on Creation Records. It was recorded at Livingston Recording Studios in London in 1996 and produced by the band's manager, Terry Thomas. The aim was to capture the ferocity of their live shows, and the record did that well enough to reach number 15 in the UK album charts and spawn four top-40 singles.
It arrived as Britpop was losing steam, and 3 Colours Red were part of a wave of guitar bands, alongside the likes of Feeder, Ash, Muse and Stereophonics, who brought fresh energy to the scene. The music press rated Pure among the best British albums of the decade, and the band soon found themselves at the front of what the industry labelled "Britrock". Its mix of indie rock and garage punk makes it a fine place to start with their story, before Revolt followed in 1999.
