Stereophonics are a Welsh rock band formed in 1992 in Cwmaman, a village in the Cynon Valley. Kelly Jones fronts the group on vocals and guitar, with Richard Jones on bass, Adam Zindani on guitar and Jamie Morrison on drums. Stuart Cable and later Javier Weyler held the drum stool before him. Their sound is British traditional rock with a whiskey-soaked vocal, sitting comfortably alongside the alternative and post-Britpop crowd.

Word Gets Around arrived in August 1997 and reached number six in the UK. Performance and Cocktails, from 1999, brought the wider breakthrough, and Just Enough Education to Perform, You Gotta Go There to Come Back and Language. Sex. Violence. Other? are among the records people return to most. "Dakota" gave them a number one single in 2005, and nine of their thirteen studio albums have topped the UK chart. They are also a formidable live act, having headlined Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds.
