Smash is the third studio album by The Offspring, released on Epitaph in April 1994. It followed Ignition (1992), which had done better than either band or label expected without quite delivering a breakthrough. This time the band spent nearly two months at Track Record in North Hollywood with Thom Wilson, who had worked with them since their 1989 debut and produced his last Offspring record here. The songs were pieced together in the studio, with no systematic plan behind the sessions.

What followed was the band's step into worldwide popularity. "Come Out and Play", "Self Esteem" and "Gotta Get Away" all became hits, and alongside Green Day's Dookie the album helped carry punk rock into the mainstream and set up the pop punk wave of the 1990s. It reached number four on the Billboard 200 and has sold over eleven million copies, more than any other album from an independent label. It's also a great place to hear punk moving into the wider rock world.
