Album
Weezer
Weezer's self-titled debut, known to fans as the Blue Album, arrived on 10 May 1994 on DGC Records. The band had formed in Los Angeles in 1992 and found audiences more interested in grunge than in them. A demo called The Kitchen Tape caught the attention of Geffen, DGC's owner, and they chose Ric Ocasek, of the Cars, to produce.
Most of it was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York in the late summer of 1993. The band played guitars and bass in unison, as if they were one ten-string instrument. Guitarist Jason Cropper was fired mid-session, and Brian Bell stepped in. "Undone – The Sweater Song", "Buddy Holly" and "Say It Ain't So" all came with videos. It reached number sixteen in the US and remains their best seller, with more than 15 million copies sold by 2009.
