Album
With Sympathy
With Sympathy is the debut album from Ministry, the band Al Jourgensen formed in 1981. It came out on 10 May 1983 on Arista Records. Jourgensen sang and played several instruments, and drummer Stephen George was the best-known member of the early line-up.
It is a record that surprises anyone who knows Ministry only for what followed. The sound here leans towards synth-pop and new wave, with electronic textures and a pop-rock edge, far from the abrasive industrial work the band would later be known for. That makes it a useful starting point for following the group's long and winding path, which began with The Land of Rape and Honey in 1988 as the next big shift. The album was also briefly reissued overseas under the title Work for Love.
