The Land of Rape and Honey is Ministry's third studio album, released on 11 October 1988 on Sire Records. It follows the synthpop and EBM leanings of With Sympathy and Twitch, and it's the point where the band turns hard. Heavy metal guitars meet industrial textures, and Al Jourgensen drops the faux British accent of the earlier records, singing in distorted form in his natural voice. It's also the first Ministry album to feature bassist Paul Barker.

The result helped shape industrial metal, and Jourgensen has named it his favourite Ministry record. The RIAA certified it gold in January 1996. The odd title came from the slogan of Tisdale, Saskatchewan, whose motto then was "The Land of Rape and Honey", a nod to rapeseed and honey. The band spotted it on a souvenir mug. For anyone tracing how Ministry found their sound, this is the place to start.
