Album
Korn
Korn's self-titled debut came out on 11 October 1994 on Epic. It was the first of a long run of studio albums that stretches to Requiem in 2022. The band had been spotted at a show in Huntington Beach, California, and signed to Immortal/Epic on the understanding that they would keep their creative freedom rather than hand it over.
They recorded at Indigo Ranch Studios in Malibu over May and June 1994, with Ross Robinson, who had also produced their 1993 demo Neidermayer's Mind. The songs deal with child abuse, drug abuse and bullying, which gives the record its raw, uncomfortable edge. "Blind" was the first single, and the album reached number 72 on the Billboard 200 and sold at least 2.1 million copies in the US by 2003. Plenty of people credit it with kicking off nu metal, and it is the place to start if you want to hear where that sound began.
