On the Night
On the Night is Dire Straits' second live album, released on 10 May 1993. It came out through Vertigo internationally and Warner Bros. in the United States, and it arrived after the studio album On Every Street in 1991. The sleeve shows the dishes of the Very Large Array in central New Mexico, a fittingly wide-open image for a band that played big rooms.
The set leans on the group's later period, with "Walk of Life" and "Money for Nothing" among the singles featured. Anyone who knows those songs from the radio or the Brothers in Arms era can hear how they sound on stage, with the band stretching out a little beyond the studio versions. It sits comfortably in the blues rock and pop rock territory the band worked in, and in November 2023 it was folded into the box set Live 1978–1992.
