Album
Weezer
The Teal Album is Weezer's twelfth studio album and their first made up entirely of covers, mostly songs from the 1980s. It arrived without warning on 24 January 2019 as a digital release, with a retail edition following on 8 March. Mark Rankin produced it alongside the band, and it came out through Crush Music and Atlantic.
It works as a surprise warm-up for the thirteenth album, released on 1 March 2019, so it sits in the band's story as a playful detour rather than a statement. Reviews were mixed: some listeners enjoyed the self-aware silliness of the whole thing, while others took issue with the arrangements. It is best approached as a bit of fun from a band happily poking at pop history.
