Album
Balance
Balance is Van Halen's tenth studio album, released on 24 January 1995 by Warner Bros. Records. It was the fourth and last record the band made with Sammy Hagar on lead vocals, and the final one to feature bassist Michael Anthony from start to finish. It topped the Billboard 200 in February 1995 and went triple platinum in the US, passing three million copies by May 2004.
The mood is more serious than on most of the band's records, and Eddie Van Halen's guitar riffs and keyboard work are woven together rather than kept apart. Three instrumentals sit among the songs, and "The Seventh Seal" earned a Grammy nomination for Best Hard Rock Performance. Critics gave it mixed reviews at the time, but it rewards listeners curious about the Hagar line-up's closing chapter. It was remastered for The Collection II in 2023, and an expanded edition with live Wembley recordings from 1995 followed in August 2025.
