Album
Skid Row
Skid Row's self-titled debut arrived on 24 January 1989 on Atlantic. It followed the band's signing with manager Doc McGhee, who helped open the door to the label. They recorded it in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, with producer Michael Wagener, and it sits at the start of a run of six studio albums that stretches all the way to The Gang's All Here in 2022.
Reviews were mixed at first, but audiences took to it. Four singles came from it: "Youth Gone Wild", "18 and Life", "I Remember You" and "Piece of Me". Each had a video that got heavy rotation on MTV. The band opened for Bon Jovi and Aerosmith in 1989 and 1990, and the album climbed to number six on the Billboard 200, eventually going 5× platinum in the US. It's a fine snapshot of late-80s hard rock and glam metal, with a mix of swagger and ballads.
