The Miracle is Queen's thirteenth studio album, released on 22 May 1989 by Parlophone. It followed A Kind of Magic and came out of a difficult stretch for the band: Brian May was dealing with marital problems, and Freddie Mercury had received his HIV diagnosis in 1987. Sessions began in January 1988 and ran for a full year. The record was nearly called The Invisible Men, but according to Roger Taylor the name was changed to The Miracle three weeks before release.

It topped the charts in the UK, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland, and reached number 24 on the US Billboard Top Pop Albums chart. It is also the last Queen album to show all four members on its front cover. AllMusic names it, alongside The Game, as the band's best album of the 1980s, which makes it a good place to pick up the story before Innuendo.
