Queen's self-titled debut arrived on 13 July 1973 and introduces the band as a British outfit already mixing heavy rock with progressive ambition and a touch of folk. It was recorded in London at Trident Studios and De Lane Lea Music Centre, with Roy Thomas Baker, John Anthony and the band themselves sharing production duties.

It's a record of range. Freddie Mercury wrote five of the ten songs, Brian May four, including "Doing All Right", which he co-wrote with Tim Staffell back in the band Smile. Roger Taylor wrote and sang "Modern Times Rock and Roll". The lyrics roam from folklore in "My Fairy King" to religion in "Jesus". The closing track is a short instrumental take on "Seven Seas of Rhye", whose full version turned up on Queen II, so this is the place to hear the story begin.
