Classic Queen
Classic Queen is a compilation put together for the American market by Hollywood Records. It came out on 3 March 1992 and works as a US counterpart to Greatest Hits II. The timing was no accident: Queen were back in the public eye in the States after the film Wayne's World and the death of Freddie Mercury.
It sits after Innuendo, the band's most recent studio album at the time, and before Made in Heaven. The public response was strong. The record climbed to number four on the Billboard 200 and went three times platinum in the US and five times platinum in Canada. Combined sales of this and Greatest Hits II across the US and Canada are put at more than 25 million worldwide. For anyone coming to Queen's arena-sized rock, pop sensibility and symphonic flourishes through the American route, it is a handy way in.
