Rock the Night: The Very Best of Europe
Rock the Night: The Very Best of Europe is a compilation from the Swedish rock band, released in March 2004 on Epic. It gathers the band's best-known work into a single career overview, and it arrived in the same year as Start From the Dark, the record that followed their return to studio work after Prisoners in Paradise in 1991.
What sets it apart is how it was assembled. An earlier retrospective, 1982–1992, was put together by vocalist Joey Tempest on his own. This time every member of the band had a say in the track listing, so the selection reflects the group's shared view of its own catalogue rather than one voice. For anyone coming to Europe through The Final Countdown and wanting to hear what else they did across the 1980s, it is a sensible place to start.
