A Different Kind of Truth
A Different Kind of Truth is the twelfth and final studio album by Van Halen, released on 7 February 2012 through Interscope Records. It marked David Lee Roth's return to the studio with the band for the first time since 1984, and it arrived after a gap that stretched back to 1998's Van Halen III. Bassist Michael Anthony, present on every earlier record, was replaced by Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang, who appeared on this one album only.
The record was made at Henson Recording Studios and Eddie's own 5150 Studios, with John Shanks producing. Seven of its thirteen songs grew from demos the band had written in the late 1970s and early 1980s but never released, now reworked with new lyrics. Many reviewers heard a return to form, and several publications placed it among the year's best. It entered the Billboard 200 at No. 2, and an arena tour followed.
