Album
Riot Act
Riot Act is Pearl Jam's seventh studio album, released on 12 November 2002 through Epic. It followed a full tour for Binaural and a year-long break, after which the band regrouped at the start of 2002 and began writing again. It was the last record of entirely new material they made for Epic.
The music roams widely, taking in folk, art rock and experimental rock, while the lyrics turn to mortality and existentialism. Two things hang over it: the mood after the September 11 attacks, and the deaths of nine fans during the band's set at Roskilde Festival in 2000. A politically charged tour followed in 2003. Reviews were mostly positive, and the album has gone gold in the United States. It is worth hearing as a more reflective, searching chapter in the band's story.
