Album
Lightning Bolt
Lightning Bolt is Pearl Jam's tenth studio album, produced by their long-time collaborator Brendan O'Brien. It arrived in October 2013 on the band's own label, Monkeywrench Records, following Backspacer from 2009.
The songs were begun in 2011, and a first round of sessions in early 2012 was followed by a pause while the members pursued side projects. Work picked up again in March 2013. The result is heavier and longer-breathed than its predecessor, with Eddie Vedder's lyrics turning to ageing and mortality. "Mind Your Manners" and "Sirens" were the singles. Critics heard a welcome return to the band's older sound, and the record went to number one in the United States, Canada and Australia. It suits anyone who misses the weightier side of Pearl Jam.
