The Heartwork EP is a short release from Carcass, put out by Earache Records in 1993. It takes its name from the band's fourth studio album, Heartwork, which arrived the same year and followed Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious from 1991.

The parent album is the one that matters here. It was recorded at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool in the spring of 1993, and it has been called the band's breakthrough and a landmark in melodic death metal. It was also their only major label release, issued in the US by Columbia. Guitarist Michael Amott left afterwards to form Spiritual Beggars, and Bill Steer has named Heartwork as his favourite Carcass record. For anyone curious about where the Liverpool band's sound turned more melodic, this is a good place to start.
