The Great Escape Artist
The Great Escape Artist is the fourth studio album by Jane's Addiction, released on 18 October 2011 on Capitol Records. It was the American alternative rock band's first record since Strays in 2003, and it turned out to be their last. Two singles led the way: "End to the Lies", offered as a free download in April 2011, and "Irresistible Force (Met the Immovable Object)", which followed in August.
What makes it interesting is the line-up and the intent. Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio plays bass alongside Chris Chaney, and Rich Costey produced. Perry Farrell described the sound as a mix of the band's post-punk goth darkness with the influence of groups like Muse and Radiohead, saying he couldn't help moving forward rather than simply pleasing old fans. Costey's verdict was that it was a real Jane's Addiction record.
