Mastodon

Mastodon are an American heavy metal band from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in 2000. Troy Sanders, Brent Hinds, Bill Kelliher and Brann Dailor made up the line-up for 24 years, until Hinds left in March 2025; he died five months later in a motorcycle accident. Their sound runs through progressive, sludge and alternative metal, with all four members contributing vocals.

Remission arrived in 2002, followed by Leviathan in 2004, a concept album built around Moby-Dick that Revolver, Kerrang! and Terrorizer all named Album of the Year. Crack the Skye, Once More 'Round the Sun and Emperor of Sand are also among their best-known records. The last of those brought a first Grammy, for "Sultan's Curse", and a Best Rock Album nomination. Their ninth album, Marrow Deep, came out in August 2026.
