Mastodon
Mastodon is a nine-LP vinyl box set from the American heavy metal band of the same name, released on 11 November 2008 through Relapse Records. It gathers everything the band put out on that label, and adds Blood Mountain, which first appeared on Reprise Records. Every record was pressed on 180-gram vinyl.
The collection is aimed at the dedicated collector. Only 1,000 copies were made, so it is a keepsake as much as a way to hear the music. It sits between Blood Mountain in 2006 and Crack the Skye in 2009, and it pulls together the band's groove, progressive and sludge metal sides in one set. For anyone who wants Mastodon's early run on wax, it makes a handsome home for it.
