Jonah Hex: Revenge Gets Ugly EP (Music From the Motion Picture)

This EP is Mastodon's contribution to the 2010 superhero film Jonah Hex, directed by Jimmy Hayward and starring Josh Brolin. The band worked alongside film composer Marco Beltrami on the score, and Reprise Records put it out in June 2010. It also goes by the title Jonah Hex: Music From The Motion Picture.

It sits between Crack the Skye in 2009 and The Hunter in 2011, so it catches the Atlanta-born sludge and heavy metal band in a brief detour into film work. It reached number 15 on Billboard's Top Soundtracks and number 22 on its Hard Rock Albums chart. For anyone who follows Mastodon's story, it's a curious side door worth trying, where their heavy sound meets an orchestral composer's craft.
