Pure
Pure is the second studio album by Godflesh, the English industrial metal band, released in April 1992 on Earache Records. It followed Streetcleaner (1989) and came before Selfless (1994). The 1991 EP Cold World was recorded in the same sessions, and "Mothra" was issued as a promotional single with a music video.
Though first filed simply as industrial metal, the record has since been recognised as one of the earliest post-metal releases. The rhythms are mechanical, the guitars harsh, and the songs stretch out, leaning on deliberate repetition. It is heavy and aggressive, and that helped win it critical praise. Justin Broadrick was unhappy with the production, yet counts it among the band's most honest records. Fact placed it 64th on its 2012 list of the best albums of the 1990s, and Godflesh played most of it live at Roadburn in 2013.
