Pitchshifter
Pitchshifter are an industrial rock band from Nottingham, formed in 1989 by guitarist and programmer Johnny A. Carter and bassist and vocalist Mark Clayden. Their early records were gritty and heavy, built on downtuned guitars and drum machines, and they are cited as one of the originators of industrial metal alongside Godflesh. Industrial arrived in 1991, followed by Desensitized, Infotainment?, www.pitchshifter.com, Deviant and PSI.
Over time the band grew more melodic, drawing on nu metal and drum and bass. That shift is clearest on www.pitchshifter.com from 1998, an album that has been compared with The Prodigy and remains their best-known record. Mainstream success was modest, though their contribution to the Mortal Kombat: Annihilation soundtrack went platinum. They have also played Ozzfest, Phoenix Festival and Damnation Festival.
