Turbo
Turbo is the tenth studio album by Judas Priest, released in April 1986 on Columbia. It arrived after Defenders of the Faith and before Ram It Down, and it marks one of the biggest shifts in the band's story: a move towards a more commercial, glam metal sound, with the band using synthesisers for the first time.
That makes it a fascinating listen for anyone tracing how the Birmingham-born heavy metal veterans responded to the changing sound of mid-eighties rock. It is worth hearing as a snapshot of a band willing to try something new, whatever you make of the result. The album was remastered on CD in 2001 with two bonus tracks, and in 2017 it came back as Turbo 30, which adds two CDs recorded live at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri, on 22 May 1986.
