Blues for the Red Sun
Blues for the Red Sun is the second studio album by the American band Kyuss, following Wretch from 1991. It came out on Dali Records on 30 June 1992 and sits in the stoner rock and stoner metal camp, with hard and alternative rock in the mix too.
Reviews were mostly favourable, though sales were modest, at around 39,000 copies. Its reputation has grown considerably since, and it is now regarded as a highly influential record within stoner rock. It also marks the end of an era for the band: it was the last Kyuss album with bassist Nick Oliveri, who was replaced by Scott Reeder shortly after recording wrapped. The album is dedicated to Oliveri's father, who died in a car accident in 1991. Welcome to Sky Valley followed in 1994.
