Scream Bloody Gore

Scream Bloody Gore is the debut album from Death, released on 25 May 1987. It is often described as the first true death metal record, and it is very much the work of one man: Chuck Schuldiner, the band's co-founder and leader, played guitar and bass, sang, and wrote every track. Drummer Chris Reifert, who had joined for the Mutilation demo, played on this record and no other Death album. It is also the only one not recorded at Morrisound Recording.

It opens the story that runs on through Leprosy in 1988 and the rest of Death's studio catalogue. If you want to hear where the genre's sound began to harden into something recognisable, this is the place to start. A remastered reissue appeared in 2016 on CD, vinyl and cassette, adding the original Florida session and rehearsal recordings from 1986.
