Gameboy Variations (Hell Yes EP)
Gameboy Variations is a remix EP from Beck, released on 1 February 2005 through Interscope Records. It sits in the chiptune corner of his catalogue, with electronic and alternative rock leanings, and it arrived just ahead of Guero, the album that followed on 29 March 2005. That record went on to be his highest-charting, peaking at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200.
For anyone who loves the way Beck has always mixed samples, drum machines and sound effects into a collage of styles, this is a playful side trip. It is a small, quirky release rather than a major statement, best approached as a curiosity that shows how readily his restless approach to sound could slip into a different format.
