Electroretard
Electroretard is the Melvins' thirteenth album, released on 6 February 2001 through Man's Ruin Records. It arrived between The Crybaby and Hostile Ambient Takeover, in a stretch when the band were releasing records at a rapid rate.
It's a curious mix. There are three cover versions, four reworked takes on older Melvins songs, and "Shit Storm", an experiment in backmasking. The genre tags run from punk and psychedelic rock to electronic and experimental, which gives a fair idea of how far it wanders. A vinyl edition was planned, but Man's Ruin closed before it could appear. The album was reissued on 2 June 2015 by Ipecac Recordings, paired with The Bulls & the Bees EP, which makes it easier to find now. Worth hearing for the way it revisits the band's own back catalogue while still poking at the edges.
