Stag
Stag is the eighth studio album by the American band Melvins, released on 15 July 1996 through Atlantic Records. It followed Stoner Witch and Prick from 1994, and it turned out to be their last record for the label before they were dropped. Promotional singles were put out for "The Bit" and "Bar-X the Rocking M", and the latter came with a music video.
What makes it worth hearing is how far it wanders. The band stretch well beyond heavy riffing, taking in drone, ambient passages and country, and bringing in instruments such as sitar and trombone. It is an experimental, varied record, and a fascinating one to put on if you only know Melvins for their sludgier side.
