Pigs of the Roman Empire

Pigs of the Roman Empire is a collaboration between the American rock band Melvins and the electronic musician Lustmord, released on 23 August 2004 through Ipecac Recordings. Tool guitarist Adam Jones also makes substantial contributions. It sits among the Melvins' more adventurous detours, landing between Hostile Ambient Takeover and Never Breathe What You Can't See in their long run of albums, and it leans towards dark ambient and electronic textures rather than straight rock.

The way it was made is part of the appeal. King Buzzo has said the band gave Lustmord eleven minutes of music for the title track and he returned with twenty-two, which was just what they wanted. Some passages are purely Melvins, others purely Lustmord, and they deliberately never said which was which, so listeners wouldn't arrive with fixed ideas. Buzzo later counted it among five records he'd recommend.
