Gluey Porch Treatments
Gluey Porch Treatments is the debut studio album by American rock band Melvins, released in 1987 through Alchemy Records. It first appeared on vinyl only, and is generally regarded as one of the earliest examples of sludge metal as well as a blueprint for grunge. That makes it a useful place to start if you want to hear where a lot of heavy, slowed-down guitar music began.
It was later issued on cassette alongside the Six Songs EP through Boner Records, and it turns up as bonus material on the CD version of Ozma, the band's next album. The 1999 re-release on Ipecac Recordings adds tracks 18 to 29, taken from a boombox demo, which gives a rougher look at the band in its earliest form. From here the Melvins went on to build one of the longest and busiest catalogues in American heavy rock.
