Album
The Bootlicker
The Bootlicker is the Melvins' eleventh studio album, released in August 1999 on Ipecac Recordings. It forms the middle chapter of a trilogy, picking up from The Maggot earlier that same year and leading into The Crybaby in 2000.
Hearing it as part of that run makes the most sense. The three records were designed to sit together, and Ipecac later gathered them on vinyl as The Trilogy Vinyl in February 2000. For anyone following the band through their restless late-1990s stretch, this is the link between its two neighbours, and it is best played with them close at hand.
