West Coast vs. Wessex

West Coast vs. Wessex is a split record pairing the American punk band NOFX with the British folk punk singer Frank Turner. Each act takes on the other's material: NOFX cover five Frank Turner songs, and Turner returns the favour with five of theirs. It came out on 31 July 2020 through Fat Wreck Chords.

In NOFX's catalogue it sits between First Ditch Effort in 2016 and Single Album in 2021, a lighter, more collaborative detour rather than a new set of originals. Its appeal is hearing how two songwriting styles reshape each other: Turner's folk-leaning anthems filtered through NOFX's punk, and the band's songs given a Turner treatment. For anyone who knows both sides, it's a fun way to hear familiar tunes from a new angle.
