Screaming Life was Soundgarden's first EP, put out by Sub Pop in 1987. It arrived before any of the band's full-length records, so it captures them at the very start of their story, on the Seattle label that was helping to define the grunge sound.

It was followed by a second EP, Fopp, in 1988, and the two were later collected together as the Screaming Life/Fopp compilation in 1990. The band's first studio album, Ultramega OK, came out in 1988. For anyone tracing how Soundgarden got to Badmotorfinger and Superunknown, this is where the path begins.
