Covers gathers Deftones' versions of other bands' songs on a single vinyl compilation. Warner Bros. Records issued it on 16 April 2011 as a limited Record Store Day release, pressed only on vinyl and capped at 5,000 copies. Many of the tracks had already appeared on B-Sides & Rarities in 2005 and on the digital edition of Diamond Eyes in 2010, so this was a chance to hear them together on one record.

The band have a habit of recording covers after each album session, which means the selection runs across their whole career up to that point. The earliest is Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man", cut before their debut, Adrenaline, arrived in 1995, when Chino Moreno was about 17. It's a good one for fans who like seeing where a band's tastes sit alongside their own songwriting.
