Album
Under Rug Swept
Under Rug Swept is the fifth studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette, released in 2002 on Maverick. It follows Jagged Little Pill and Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, and it marks a turning point: this is the first record she wrote and produced entirely by herself. Its title comes from a lyric in the lead single, "Hands Clean".
Working alone gives the songs a direct, unvarnished quality, and critics singled out the lyrics, the rawness and the vocal performances. It sits in the rock, pop rock and alternative rock mould she is known for. The album entered the Billboard 200 at number one and topped the charts in 11 other countries. It sold over 4 million copies worldwide, a little short of its two predecessors, but it is the place to hear Morissette fully in charge of her own sound.
