Covenant
Covenant is the third studio album by American death metal band Morbid Angel, following Altars of Madness and Blessed Are the Sick, and ahead of Domination in 1995. It came out on 22 June 1993 on Giant, the label deal that put the band in front of a much wider audience than before.
That exposure mattered. The album was shown widely on MTV's Headbangers Ball, and the video for "God of Emptiness" turned up on Beavis and Butt-head, which helped make this their breakthrough. It went on to sell over 150,000 copies in the United States, making it the best-selling death metal album as of 2003. It is often ranked among the genre's finest records, and bands such as Mithras, Portal and Dead Congregation have drawn on it. Rolling Stone placed it 75th in its 2017 list of the best metal albums.
