Album
Gold Against the Soul
Gold Against the Soul is the second album by Welsh alternative rock band Manic Street Preachers, released by Columbia in June 1993. It followed their 1992 debut, Generation Terrorists, and climbed to No. 8 on the UK Albums Chart.
The band push the hard rock sound of that first record further here, and dabble with funk and grunge along the way. The lyrics also turn inward. Where the debut dealt in political and social commentary, this album looks at depression, melancholy and nostalgia. That shift makes it a revealing step between the debut and what came next in the band's story, and worth hearing for anyone curious about how the Manics changed course.
