Album
The Holy Bible
The Holy Bible is the third studio album by the Welsh band Manic Street Preachers, released by Epic on 29 August 1994. It followed Generation Terrorists and Gold Against the Soul, and it turned the band's attention to politics and human suffering. Lyricist and rhythm guitarist Richey Edwards was dealing with severe depression, alcohol abuse, self-harm and anorexia nervosa while it was written and recorded, and many writers hear his state of mind in its contents.
It reached number 6 in the UK but sold disappointingly at first, and it missed the charts in mainland Europe and North America. Edwards disappeared on 1 February 1995, which makes this the last studio album by the four-piece line-up. Critics have praised it widely, and it has often placed high on best-album lists in Melody Maker, NME and Q. By 2014 it had sold over half a million copies worldwide.
