Critical Thinking
Critical Thinking is the fifteenth studio album by the Welsh band Manic Street Preachers, released on 14 February 2025 through Columbia. It follows The Ultra Vivid Lament from 2021 and arrived with four singles ahead of it, among them "Decline and Fall". Critics greeted it with universal acclaim.
What makes it stand out is who gets to sing and write. Bassist Nicky Wire takes lead vocals on three tracks, including the opening title song and "Hiding in Plain Sight", the first Manics single he has fronted. Meanwhile James Dean Bradfield writes the lyrics to three songs, more than he has ever done on one of the band's albums. After more than three decades, it is a record that rearranges the usual division of labour.
