In Time: The Best of R.E.M. 1988–2003
In Time: The Best of R.E.M. 1988–2003 is the band's second official compilation, released in October 2003 on Warner Bros. Records. It gathers material from their Warner years, running from 1988's Green through to 2001's Reveal. Alongside the album tracks come two new recordings and two songs that first appeared on film soundtracks.
It follows the band's earlier Warner-era collection and picks up the story at the point where R.E.M. moved into their widest-reaching period. For anyone who wants the Green-to-Reveal stretch in one place, with a few extras that were scattered elsewhere, it does the job neatly. British buyers took to it in a big way: it was the tenth-best-selling album of 2003 in the UK, and it still ranks fiftieth among the best sellers of the 2000s there.
