Reveal
Reveal is the twelfth studio album by R.E.M., released on 14 May 2001 through Warner Bros. Records. It was the band's second record as a trio after drummer Bill Berry left, with touring members Joey Waronker, Scott McCaughey and Ken Stringfellow contributing. Pat McCarthy produced, the second of three albums he made with them, and sessions took place in Dublin, Miami, Vancouver and the band's hometown of Athens, Georgia.
It carries on the electronic experiments of Up (1998), with keyboards and drum machines sitting alongside touches of their earlier sound. Reviewers picked out its melodic character and that blend of old and new. It reached the top ten in the United States and went to number one in the UK and across mainland Europe. "Imitation of Life" was the big single, getting into the top ten throughout Europe, followed by "All the Way to Reno (You're Gonna Be a Star)" and "I'll Take the Rain". There was no tour; the band relied on television slots, videos and a handful of free city concerts.
