Prong
Prong formed in New York City in 1986 around guitarist and vocalist Tommy Victor, who remains the only constant member. The original trio of Victor, bassist Mike Kirkland and drummer Ted Parsons began with crossover thrash, releasing the mini-album Primitive Origins and then Force Fed independently. A deal with Epic Records followed in 1989, and Beg to Differ, which got regular play on MTV's Headbangers Ball, steered them towards a groove metal sound.
Prove You Wrong gave them their first Billboard chart entry, and its title track reached No. 58 in the UK. With keyboardist John Bechdel on board, Cleansing took on a more industrial edge and produced "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck", one of their best-known songs. Rude Awakening followed in 1996 before Epic dropped them. Victor revived Prong in 2002, and the band has kept releasing records, most recently Prong in 2026 on Napalm Records.
