Helmet
Helmet are an alternative metal band from New York City, formed in 1989 by vocalist and lead guitarist Page Hamilton. Over the years the line-up has changed repeatedly, with Hamilton the only constant. Since 2010 he has been joined by drummer Kyle Stevenson, guitarist Dan Beeman and bassist Dave Case. Their sound draws on post-hardcore, alternative metal and groove metal, and they sit comfortably alongside the likes of Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Faith No More in a listener's collection.
They began with Strap It On in 1990, released on Amphetamine Reptile, before signing to Interscope for three albums. Meantime (1992) was the highly successful one, and Betty (1994) and Aftertaste (1997) followed, though neither matched its acclaim. The band split in 1998 and reformed in 2004, then returned with Size Matters that same year. Monochrome, Seeing Eye Dog, Dead to the World and Left (2023) have followed since. Start with Meantime, then work through Betty, Aftertaste and Size Matters.
